About the Artist: Donna Baratta
My fascination with color, texture, and form in infinite combinations lead me to my passion: creating hand crafted, wearable art jewelry from polymer clay and beads that are embroidered and woven. This mixed media approach allows me to continue learning and exploring new possibilities with each block of clay and every stitch.
Donna is currently teaching classes in polymer clay, bead weaving, and bead embroidery at local art leagues. She holds BS, MS, MA, and Ed.D. degrees and continues to practice life-long learning.

About the Artist
I have been doing both polymer clay and beading since the year 2000. For a long time I made jewelry in either polymer clay or in beading, but a few years ago I learned to do bead embroidery and bead bezeling around cabochons at our local Bead Shop, Bead Soup in Laurel, Maryland. That opened up a whole new field for me, and since then I've been making my own cabochons in polymer clay and then beading around them. I love being able to combine the two techniques.
In polymer clay, I prefer caning with geometric, symmetrical shapes, usually with a highly polished surface similar to that in stone cabochons. In beading, I like to have a smooth portion framing the polymer cabochon, surrounded by a much more densely textured surface with colors that pick out those in the polymer cabochon. The beading always follows what is in the polymer cabochon and, I hope, accents and complements it.
