About the Artist
I started making art as a little girl. It's been an amazing outlet and a great extension of my creativity. By High School I was still making 2D art. I, kind of by accident, started making my first line of jewelry made from wire.
Some time later in 2002, I started working as a Metalsmith. I set images into my metal frames and bezels. I focused primarily on the metal design and construction with polymer being almost an afterthought. After many years of this type of work I started longing to make something different.
Several years ago after a couple of classes with Cynthia Toops I started to explore polymer. After a lot of experimentation I started to fall in love with the medium. Now I work primarily with polymer. It's been a huge shift but a happy one.
The type of metalwork I was doing required a lot of planning and steps to get the outcome I wanted whereas polymer feels more fluid, to me at least. I have found that having a background in working with metal has informed how I approach polymer. I see it as something to build with as well as shape or mold.
