About the Artist: Mags Bonham

I am basically a self-taught artist who has be working in polymer clay for over 20 years. Living in Vermont provides an unlimited source of inspiration. Nature's ever changing beauty and majesty constantly influences my work, either in design, theme, or coloration. I love hidden treasures, secret compartments, and themes that touch the child in all of us. The one theme that is a constant in my work is function. Most pieces serve some type of function, and many perform more than one. My work is constantly evolving because I am always exploring and experimenting with the properties of polymer clay. I use digital cutters in some of my work and I teach introduction to polymer clay classes at Silhouette conferences. I frequently teach online at Craftcast.com about how to use technology as a tool for polymer clay with both design and creation.

Oceana Necklace

Oceana Necklace

Dimensions: Necklace length about 22". Largest element about 3 inches. Materials Used: Polymer clay, paint, jewelry findings. This necklace is created using silkscreens that I designed in Silhouette Studio software. I cut heat transfer vinyl using the Silhouette Curio digital cutter to create my own silkscreens. I silkscreened the polymer with a variety of paints and glazes on to semi- translucent clay to represent water & waves.

Engraved Faux Ivory Container

Engraved Faux Ivory Container

Dimensions: 3.5" x 2.75". Materials Used: Polymer clay, paint

This container is constructed from faux ivory clay. The designs have been designed and engraved using the Silhouette Curio machine. I created faux versions of lapis, jade, & turquoise to be inset into the lid of the container. The container is cured in multiple steps and sanded & polished to replicate the real versions of the gemstones recreated in polymer.
