About the Artist
Discovering the endlessly versatile medium of polymer clay in early 2012 prompted me to fulfill a childhood dream and become an artist by profession. I began with jewelry but quickly found I had a knack for sculpture. This led me to some very exciting and unexpected places. On my way to make make my dream a reality, I taught myself photography, became intimately acquainted with my IMac, learned the ins and outs of social media, resurrected my writing skills and, most importantly, connected to the wonderful community of polymer clay artists around the world. I won three top prizes in the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads 2014 and 2016 clay competitions and am in the Gallery of Artist section of Marie Segal's book "The Polymer Clay Artist's Guide". Presently, I am working on my own projects and do commissions by request. This has proven to be a fascinating and multi-branched adventure which becomes richer with experience, new vistas to explore, old relationships to deepen and new ones to forge.

Starfish On The Wave

My latest in a series of lighted under-the-sea themed goblets. I wrapped a blue goblet with Cernit translucent shot with sterling silver leaf inclusions and highlighted with embossing powders. The starfish, coral and sandy ocean floor are Premo highlighted with Pearl-Ex Mica powders and embossing powders. A flicker of the multi-colored LED light is noticeable which, in the dark, gives off a lovely warm glow thru the translucent. No paints, molds or glue were used in this piece.

Sharing a Little Nosh

This project was a complete surprise and delight to me. Following Ara Bentley's Beetlejuice Miniature House build on YouTube inspired me to make a Sand Worm. The humorous idea struck that Beetlejuice might have nicked some shrimp cocktails from Delia's notorious dinner party and was using them to make friends with the Sand Worms. The backside of the sculpture features a discarded empty wine bottle, lemon rinds and an errant shrimp along with my signature written in the sand. This sculpture glows in the dark in various colors, most notably Beetle's green hair. I used several cast-off pieces from other projects as the armature for the base so this project is entirely polymer. It's highlighted with liquid polymer tinted with Techno-Glow pigments, Pearl-ex mica and embossing powders and features Swarovski crystals for Beetle's ring and tie pin. No paints or molds were used. E6000 adhesive was used to secure the figures to the base before further covering with the last layers of clay.

The Beatles '64

This was by far the biggest trouble I've ever gotten myself into with polymer clay. I had never done human faces or figures when, on an extremely optimistic impulse, I took this commission on. After all, I'd gotten myself out of hot polymer waters before, how hard could this be? Let me just say this was The Mount Everest of all learning curves. I owe a debt of gratitude to my most patient and loving client for encouraging me on when, for the first time ever, I wanted to quit. All in all, I was pleased with the result and my customer was ecstatic, which was all I truly wanted. This sculpt features Cernit and Premo on plywood bases and wire armatures. Ringo's stand is an upside down Pyrex bowl wrapped in translucent with gutter guard mesh. It hides a sound activated plug-in LED disco light. Swarovski crystals were used for Ringo's rings, jewelry wire and headpins for guitars, Beadalon rubber cord for mic cords and armature wire for figures and instruments. E6000 and Gorilla Super Glue Gel adheres figures and instruments. No molds or paints used.

Flurry
Votive LED light holder, app. 5" x 6". Premo polymer clay, sterling silver leaf inclusions, embossing powder, and Swarovski crystals on glass Mason jar. Genuine black onyx eyes for Scottie Terrier.
Outer jar was covered and decorated with textured tinted translucent polymer. Inner lid and bottom of jar were lined with textured polymer and a holder was built inside jar to hold a color-changing LED votive light. Textured polymer legs were added. Scottie Terrier was sculpted separately and attached to lid with E6000 adhesive. No molds or paints were used in this piece.

Flowers, leaves and water were sculpted separately and mounted on a gold-painted wooden board with E600 adhesive. No paints or molds were used in sculpting the polymer piece.
