During the week of July 10, 2011 almost 100 polymer artists came together for the IPCA Biennial Retreat Hot Clay, Cool Friends. The Retreat revolved around the themes of Education and Community.
Community
On Wednesday afternoon, July 13, Retreat attendees started checking in for the Retreat and received a tote bag filled with close to $100 worth of goodies including clay, magazines, tools, clay friendly materials, catalogs, molds and even a cosmetics travel bag compliments of Lisa Pavelka. As soon as the last pre-Retreat class ended, attendees began setting up their 'homes' in the workroom. Some attendees brought minimal tools and supplies, while others set up elaborate work areas including display space for items to be sold.

As you may already know, Rosana Van Horn is coordinating both the Hot Clay Swap and a brown-bag swap. Debbie Jackson and Rosana got together and took this gorgeous picture of 'hot' beads and jewelry to inspire you. If you haven't signed up for the swap, it's not too late. Sign-up is open until July 1. You can be in 1, 2, or 3 swap groups.

I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for this retreat. In less than a month and a half, you will be exposed to a myriad of different techniques through the 13 demos and 2 days of Bettina Welker’s “make it and take it” mini-classes and a wonderful “make it and take it” by Lisa Pavelka. The people doing demos are from all over the world, including Germany, Israel, Spain, and America. We’ll be doing a little steam punk, a little faux fabric, what to do with your scrap, beach fun, learn about new products, and, last but not least, the ever-wonderful Christi Mystery demo.

I'm delighted to announce that the IPCA Retreat 2011 Scholarship has been awarded to Else Meek from Bothell, WA. Our impartial judge, Tammy Honaman, was very impressed with the high quality of all the applications but thought Else was the one who would benefit most from the award.
Our grateful thanks go to Tammy for her time in considering the requests and to Rob and Wilma Yost at Polymer Clay Express for their generous sponsorship of the Scholarship.
